Our Impact
In this quarter a total of 7000+ women street vendors were trained and 12 districts in Nagaland were covered. The project also expanded into neighbouring state of Manipur in the district of Ukhrul. 195 women have been able to secure interests free loans during this phase of the project.
Post COVID-19 lockdowns the first training for this period was held in Kohima on the 5th of August 2021 followed by 16 training sessions held across 12 districts in Nagaland and 1 district in Manipur. Following this, field executives and community mobilizers in Dimapur, Jalukie, Kohima, Pfutsero, Phek, Mokokchung and Wokha have been in touch with the women vendors. In Pughoboto town a community mobilizer has been deputed to follow up with the women who attended the training in February.
Given the COVID-19 Pandemic that continues to affect businesses, including the trade of women street vendors, with the hope of helping women street vendors restart their trade, tEA has been able to provide 195 women with interest free loans of ₹10,000 to ₹25,000.
Furthermore, in an attempt to strengthen market linkages for women street vendors tEA through its networks provides credit on bulk purchases of local products sourced from farmers across the state. Other networks with local district administrations have also been strengthened through the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) of the districts in 5 of the training sessions. Through such networks meaningful interactions as well as necessary policy changes can also be influenced.
Financial literacy and healthcare have been two major areas of focus under this project. During this quarter financial literacy training was provided by State Bank of India, The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA) Thrift and Credit Cooperatives Federation Limited (EATACOL) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SDBI). With respect to healthcare, awareness was given by 8 health officials from the Local Medical offices especially on the COVID-19 Pandemic and the need for safety and precaution during such trying times.
